Eryk Makohon
Choreographer, creator and leader of the Krakow Dance Theatre. Permanent lecturer at the Faculty of Dance Theatre at the Stanisław Wyspiański Academy of Theatre Arts in Krakow. Creator of over thirty performances. Author of educational projects and many artistic events.
Graduate of primary and secondary music school, Architecture at the Krakow University of Technology and dance theory studies at the Fryderyk Chopin University in Warsaw. Scholarship holder of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage in 2017.
His education in architecture has strongly influenced the aesthetic form of his performances. He was also strongly influenced by the cooperation with the Silesian Dance Theatre and its creator, Jacek Łumiński, author of his own dance technique - the Polish contemporary dance technique. As a dancer he worked for several years, first in Krakow and then in Silesia - in the Silesian Dance Theatre, one of the first Polish professional contemporary dance theatres. As a dancer he performed on stages in Europe, Asia and North America.
From the very beginning he also ran his own company, which after several years of activity, after a dynamic period of development, changed its name to Krakow Dance Theatre and is now the most active and recognizable dance theatre in Krakow and one of several permanent dance theatres in Poland. As an educator and choreographer, he has worked for many years with the KTO Theatre and has created a movement in performances from the last few seasons, shown and awarded at many theatre festivals around the world. As a choreographer of the Krakow Dance Theatre he consistently builds the characteristic aesthetics of the Theatre, based on body architecture and image art. He often refers to the concepts that have grown out of the theatrical tradition. Recent years of his professional activity have brought a number of projects and creative activities carried out with Polish and foreign artists. Eryk Makohon has created, between others, choreography for a musical and multimedia project, carried out by the Kamena Artistic Agency. The result of the project is a double disc edition of DVDs with music by Feliks Nowowiejski performed by Sinfoni Varsovia under the baton of Sebastian Perłowski. He also collaborated with director Sjaron Minailo on the opera "Hyppolite et Arita", performed as part of Opera Rara.
He took part in the Polish production of "Lighting" and in the new production "a...b" by German choreographer Anna Konjetzky. Currently he performs in "The Entrance" by Ayrin Ersoz. As a choreographer, Eryk Makohon has cooperated with the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague in recent years (he created with his students the spectacle "Motion Gallery") and Central Europe Dance Theatre in Budapest (the spectacle "POLY" by him has been included in the permanent repertoire of the Theatre). Together with Paweł Łyskawa he is the creator and curator of the "Rollercoaster. Collectors of Thrills", a series of shows of dance performances, which since October 2018 has been carried out in the Centre for Documentation of the Art of Tadeusz Kantor Cricoteka in Krakow.
Eryk Makohon's spectacle entitled „WE|YOU" was awarded in the "Competition for the Best Performance of the Independent Theatre The Best OFF 2018". (his performance "Takarazuka camp", which is in the next stage of the competition, fights for the title of the best performance of 2020). The performance "Glamour" was selected for the final of "Polish Dance Platform 2019". Makohon is a multiple winner of Tyskie Spotkania Teatralne.
